Alert to local food customers: Skagit Valley Creamery (Haggen) is just a name.

07 Nov

Haggen is “rebranding” to give the appearance of carrying more local products. I wrote to them and told them I thought that was deceptive. I’m going back to Edaleen (which they don’t carry–I get it at the Fairhaven Starvin’ Sam’s) and Grace Harbor Farms. By the way, Darigold is “farmer owned,” but they have over 500 farms throughout Washington, Oregon, California, and states further East, and Edaleen did not consider them friendly to small producers, last I heard.

Rock on! It’s cool to see your blog. I look forward to reading your work—and thanks for putting out that knowledge about Haggen’s manipulation into the ‘local’ market.

Thanks! I’m not finding it easy to show up to write often–hope to improve in that.

Good news–I talked to a Haggen representative at their main office and he said that the response to the Skagit Valley Creamery brand hasn’t been very good–both Haggen staff and customers saw through it, and he says Haggen will probably drop it. I’m glad their operation is small enough to give a fig.

No change yet. Maybe the dishonesty (as I see it) is paying off after all.
